I don't know that Tom will let me call her The Boomer, but our 1989 Gulfstream El Capitan is now in our driveway. Yesterday, Tom picked me up and we drove down 95 to Wakefield to pick her up. We were about a half hour early, so we sat in a parking lot for a bit and watched the sunset over the plaza. At 4:45, we drove over, and went inside and closed the deal with Shawn and Sherry. Sherry has been sick, and they are going to Florida. She wrote up a bill of sale and then it was done. We got back 100 dollars because I overestimated the price, which is good because it showed that Shawn is a good guy. I was nervous about this whole transaction and still am, but as I drove home with Tom in the rearview mirror I was very excited about our future with this house on wheels. We then came home and watched "Lost in America", which I find to be a sad movie. Why can't they make their dream happen? I wonder if we will face similar problems (well, least of which is Vegas which neither of us have any interest in.)
What I learned yesterday: Bill W is not some guy I think I know from around town. I'm such a dope.

New RV and plans for the future
Over the holidays (it is now 2014, so I have been "maintaining" this blog since oh eight) Tom and I talked seriously about our Extended Road Trip 2015. This dream of ours to go and see America seems to be taking shape, whereas before it was all talk. After all, we had a farm full of alpacas to take care of, two dogs, a kid in high school (then college), and inertia from, well, let's just say from working 9-5 and from going to school at night (me.) How would we do this and deal with selling the house, the animals, the STUFF? So we made a sort of plan, and started the ball rolling when we went to see an RV we saw on Craigslist. That first one was good to see, but it wasn't for us. And then we found the Beast. A 1989 Gulfstream El Capitan (I mean, just the name...) has everything we need.
The picture above is not our camper, but pretty much what we bought.
Our sellers have told us about and shown us all of the updates and upgrades, and I trust Tom's instinct with the motor / engine. We bit the bullet and made an offer. First, it took lunch in Wakefield, and even though Tom was still uncertain, I've known him long enough to see he was pretty excited about this girl. All in all, we got a great deal, and we're very excited about getting the ball rolling on our dream.
So, from here forward, this blog is going to focus on the process of paying for this beast (I very worriedly extracted the cash from my account today, wrapped it in fish paper and have been nervously checking it every five minutes...) and picking her up tomorrow night, driving her back to the farm, and then, TO DO:
Begin paring down the STUFF.
Get down to selling the last of our herd
Dissolve the farm business
Revamping the inside which smells like stale cigarettes
Get rid of the farm truck
Get rid of the trailer
Finish college (May!)
Yard Sale (June!)
Test run to the Adirondacks for (hopefully, if I get in) Wakely Dam Ultra (50+K) (July!)
Get the house on the market (Spring 15!)
and much, much more. Stay tuned!
